Contessa implies royalty, and the gala held at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto regally welcomed more than 1200 industry professionals in a high-fashion and extreme-energy event hosted by stylist and TV personalità Bill Rowley and Ashleigh Scott, an internationally renowned Ford model and make-up artist.
The theme this year was “Cities After Dark”, for which Schwarzkopf Professional, L’Oréal Professionnel, and Goldwell sponsored segments on New York, Paris, and Tokyo nightlife.
Competition was running high, as six independent judging panels evaluated each entry to choose just 23 of the 133 finalists to be honored with the prestigious trophies.
Top honors went to Véronique Beaupré of Montreal’s local B. Beaupré as Canadian Hairstylist of the Year, and who continued in a clean sweep, also nabbing Canadian Salon Team of the Year and Quebec Hairstylist of the Year.
Timothy Switzer of Oshawa-based Timothy & Co. Salon & Spa, also dominated the event in his specialty, winning both Master Colourist of the Year and Makeover Colourist of the Year.
Albert Snow Hair Design Group took home The John Steinberg Award for Community Service, which was renamed in honour of the hair icon. Steinberg’s daughter, Hayley Morgan, was on hand to present the trophy.
All professional hair, nail and makeup professionals are invited to submit their best work in the form of digital images to 23 categories. Submissions are evaluated on originality, creativity, fashion appeal, model suitability and technical execution. The quality of photography, makeup and wardrobe are also considered. In the nail categories, grooming and enhancement are evaluated.
